Starting off the 2022 Virginia General Assembly

The 2022 Virginia General Assembly Session has started as of January 12, 2022. This year is a long Session, scheduled to adjourn March 12th. After the 2021 elections, we now have new leadership in the House of Delegates with Republicans taking back the majority. The make-up of the Senate remains the same, meaning a Democratic majority. On Saturday, January 15th, Virginia will hold the Inauguration of Glenn Youngkin (Governor), Winsome Sears (Lieutenant Governor), and Jason Miyares (Attorney General).

This Session will be held in person, and your Virginia Retail Federation team will represent your voice at the Capitol. As in years past, we will send out our weekly Retail Advocate emails designed to keep you updated on relevant bills with a potential impact on retail businesses. These reports will begin next week.

Most importantly, we will continue to utilize our Action Alert system, asking retailers to reach out to Legislators on key issues. Participation in these Action Alerts is imperative. Hearing from constituents can often be one of the most impactful factors for Legislators. Our Action Alert System allows you to message your Legislator quickly and efficiently, or you may choose to customize the message.

Hello InUnison members! We wanted to give a quick update as we are in week 4 of the General Assembly. Our partners at Virginia Retail Federation have been hard at work at the GA monitoring legislation that impacts business. We will head into crossover next week, where action will need to be taken in order for bills to make it through into law. They track over 100 pieces of legislation each year on your behalf. Here are a few major areas they are covering this year: Minimum wage, paid leave, overtime, sales tax increase, and many other tax and business mandate legislation.
